ETIM (European Technical Information Model) is an international, vendor-neutral classification standard for technical products used across the electrical, mechanical, heating and installation industries. It gives every product a standardized set of features, values and terminology so that manufacturers, wholesalers, e-commerce platforms and software systems can exchange product data consistently, regardless of language, supplier or country.

ETIM Product classes, identified by an EC code, describe finished, sellable products such as luminaires, cables, valves or sensors. Each product class defines a fixed set of features and possible values, letting manufacturers classify their catalog once and distribute consistent, structured product data to every channel that supports the ETIM standard.

ETIM Modelling classes, identified by an MC code, describe components used in engineering and BIM design tools rather than commercial products. They add drawings, connection points and relationships to product classes, enabling CAD/BIM software to model installations - such as electrical or piping systems - using standardized, interoperable symbols and connectors.

Manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors and software vendors across Europe and beyond rely on ETIM to publish and consume product data without costly one-off mappings. Because classes, features and translations are maintained centrally and released through open change requests, everyone in the supply chain works from the same shared, up-to-date reference model.
